On Tuesday evening, 16th of August, hundreds of local residents and Thügida-critics took part at the initiative "crayon against stupidity" in order to decorate the cityquarter "Damenviertel". Thus, small and big artists of every age painted the Sophienstraße – not far from the Thuringian University and State Library (ThULB) – with all kinds of pretty pictures and slogans to express their common aversion against hatred, exclusion and human enmity.

Background of this action was the planned demonstration of Thügida followers on the upcoming Wednesday, the day of death of Rudolf Hess, former deputy of Adolf Hitler. The right-wing demonstrants marched with torches and xenophobic slogans along the – meanwhile painted – Sophienstraße through the popular residential district.

Our correspondent Johannes was on-site: "The mood is simply great. Whether immigrant or Jenenser; whether student, employee or boss – together we paint and write to our heart's desire."

At this point once again many thanks to all street artists for this conjointly and peaceful protest.
